Well, I'm glad I spent several days writing as intently as I could manage, because I can't possibly look at any of my in-progress fic at the moment. Hell, after I finished "Mercy" last night, I couldn't even look at anybody else's fic, and who knows how long it'll be before I can steel myself for a re-read. I can't remember ever reading anything that hurt so much.

If I'm stymied in my own writing, and if, as many are complaining, there's been a stagnation in SV fandom during summer hiatus, maybe I can at least help inspire new fic from others.

Came across something I wrote a couple years back called "A Poem in Thirty-Five (35) Parts, Or Thirty-Five (35) Poems," inspired by something another poet friend of mine had said about writing 35 1-line poems and whether they would count the same as a single 35-line poem. Said friend rather reminds me of my mental image of wild-teen Lex, actually -- or perhaps that's the other way round? Anyhow, the bits that he inspired turn out to apply rather well to our poor little rich boy. Feel free to lift any of the poetlets below for a story of your own, provided credit's given for the quote.

Somehow I knew you'd like #23, Kitty -- though I figured #3 would be the other one that pushed your button, "Lashes" having either meaning, or both.

I hope by now you've read "Mercy?" I've a feeling you'll enjoy certain of the bits some others found objectionable.

And I can't imagine not reading while I write. I'd never get any reading done! I can see why you do it, though, I suppose.

the non-reading thing is partially a defence against absorbing too much of other writers' visions/styles. Also I find the less I read the more I think. Make any sense? Probably not...

And still haven't got to Mercy. But i'm away for a few weeks, so I might then!
