pass the memes, please?

I rarely participate in memes, but there have been a few short and amusing ones going around lately, and now that I'm finally caught up on responding to comments in my LJ, including the meta-heavy Batman/Robin poll post (though I still have commenting I mean to do elsewhere), I figure something light and fluffy is called for.

Five fictional people I had a crush on as a child, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] evadne_:
List five fictional people -- from television, movies, books, whatever -- that you had a crush on as a child (or early teens). Then post this on your LiveJournal so other people can be assured that you're as weird as they thought.

1. Tarzan -- specifically the Tarzan in the Filmation cartoon; the old black-and-white films never quite did it for me in the same way. I now, 25 years later, have finally acquired copies of a few of the episodes. Te points out rather telling similarities between toon!Tarzan's gymnastic leaps and tumbles, and a certain other dark-haired acrobat...

2. Zorro -- another Filmation cartoon, initially, but almost every other version I've seen *has* worked for me. My parents, however, did not take me to see a Zorro film in the theatre and get mugged on our way home...

3. Spock -- look, I was raised in a Trekkie household. I'm not the fanatic fan I once was, but I still think Leonard Nimoy is both hot and immensely talented. I even had a sex dream about him a few months ago...

4. Margaret Mead -- I know, the meme specifically says "fictional people." But I had a children's book about her when I was six or seven years old, a necessarily truncated biography that talked about several of the Pacific islands she visited and the differences between their cultures. I was, and remain, fascinated, and still hope to visit Samoa one day.

5. Frank Poncharello -- if you don't remember who that is, I'm not going to enlighten you. If you do... I don't suppose saying there's a strong resemblance to my biological father helps any?

Image meme, ganked from [livejournal.com profile] thete1:

1. A picture of your first car.

This is actually the first car I remember my parents driving:

Looks just like ours, right down to the paint-job, except that the one whose rear window I used to lay under was neither a convertible nor a scale model.

2. The place you grew up.

The building to the right, almost obscured by foliage, is town hall; the office of the doctor I still go to is just off to the left of the frame; the photo was taken by someone standing on the town green.

3. The place where you live now.

My building is almost directly behind this one. Considerably less small-town-America than where I grew up.

4. What shows up when you type in your name?

Okay, it wasn't the *first* image google spit out. But honestly, would you rather I'd posted random dogs or poi instead?

5. What shows up when you type in your grandmother's name?

Someone else's grandmother, oddly enough.

6. What shows up when you type in your favorite food?

I don't have a favourite food. Really, I don't, there's no way I can narrow it down. The closest it gets is "something I've never eaten before," and google yields no picture of that.

7. What shows up when you type in your favorite drink?

Since I had no favourite food image, two beverages, one alcoholic:

and one not:

(I do prefer mine rather fresher.)

8. Your favourite song.

"red, *VW* microbus, with shovels and rakes and implements *of* des*truc*tion"

9. What shows up when you type in your favorite smell?

...don't ask.

10. Your favorite pair of shoes ever.

Not boots, but aren't they smurfy?

What's on my pull list, because [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown asked:
    Adventures of Superman
    Authority: Revolutions
    The Ballad of Sleeping Beauty*
    Batgirl
    Batman
    Batman: Detective Comics
    Batman: Gotham Knights
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight
    Birds of Prey
    Doc Spectrum
    Firestorm*
    Flash
    Gotham Central*
    Green Arrow
    Green Lantern: Rebirth
    Justice League Elite
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (hunh... I'm guessing this is out now, at long last?)
    Nightwing
    Ocean*
    Outsiders
    Planetary*
    Richard Dragon*
Robin (dropped until DC comes to its senses and replaces the creative team)
    Sleeper season 2
    Superman/Batman
    Supreme Power
    Teen Titans

* denotes books you probably aren't reading but should be, because damn, GOOD.

The lyrics meme strikes back, ganked most recently from [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn:

Not from my winamp playlist, since I have barely anything in there, but rather the most recent music I've played on my stereo. (Yes, an AM/FM tape-and-CD player -- I'm like a caveman, I know.)

1) sister well i declare / have you seen the like -- "Uncle John's Band" cover by Indigo Girls, [livejournal.com profile] thete1 (original by the Grateful Dead)

2) to scatter us away / in a flood of wind and rain -- "Origin of Love" by Hedwig & the Angry Inch, [livejournal.com profile] dammitcarl

3) a palomino of frustration / ride 'em cowboy

4) just a tale of right and wrong / that they will whisper inside the bathroom -- "I Know What Kind of Love This Is" cover by Cry Cry Cry, [livejournal.com profile] carleton97 (original by the Nields)

5) there's something good / waiting down this road

6) you got the iq of a digeridoo / you look insane and got no brain

7) i still can knock some more / ooh boy, ooh boy, is it crazy love -- "Waiting in Vain" cover by Annie Lennox, [livejournal.com profile] chibified_angel (original by Bob Marley)

8) you say you can't trust me / have you tried

9) the body is trapped but / the mind soars free

10) how will she know of the devils i've seen / cross in the sky, star in the sea

11) when you tell them your daughter's in some crazy band / do they smile

12) my sight was poor but i was sure / the sirens sang their songs for me

And only a dozen because I honestly don't listen to that much music. As usual, googling for the lyrics is totally cheating. Otherwise, comment if you know the title and artist.

Finally, the perfect cap to this post of randomness and Look At Me, the bumper sticker on the Griffins' car in tonight's episode of Family Guy on Adult Swim:

You got it. And yes, it's the one on the mix CD you gave me. (: ::hugs a Jess::

1. "Uncle John's Band" -- Indigo Girls cover...?

Also? The image meme is just awesome when I have some familiarity. Especially with the shoes. :D

Yep, and I have that CD because I got it from you. You guys are going with the easy ones, hee.

Yes indeed! I love that song, though it always gives me chills. It goes on my Dick mix.

Ooooh. What a great Dick song!

I'm going to have to look at my pull list again, but I suspect now that I did indeed forget at least two.

(If I remembered to *add* Authority: Revolutions to my pull. Sometimes, I'll go weeks before I remember, "Oh yeah, I should be pulling this.")

Hee. The more titles on your pull list, the harder it gets to remember them all... but isn't that kind of why we have pull lists in the first place?

Oh, that is so very true. Plus they saved my ass when I couldn't make it to the comic book store.

There were a couple things I hadn't added before I was on bedrest this fall. Which meant that EVERY week, I had to check what I got, check what was out, and if needed, send Paul back out for what I'd missed.

(Oh, DUH, Astonishing X-Men. Three things left off the list.)

Not even close, but in fairness there are only one or two songs on the list that are more obscure. I won't be surprised if no one gets that one, even if I think everyone should own the album it's on...

oh, more people should read richard dragon! i picked up the first issue on a whim, and fell completely in love. so good!

Yeah, it's really fantastic. (And somebody needs to write me some Richard/Ben. I'm just saying.) I'm even developing an appreciation for Scott McDaniel's art.

LL: mos is set to ship the first week of March!!!!! *dances* It was the first thing I ever put on my pull list, and it's been languishing there for well over a year now. *pets Azzarello*

I love the shoes! I have a pair of Born's that are similar in shape, and sooooooo comfy.

That's tragic! Well, at least now you'll finally get it.

Is number 7 Annie Lennox - Waiting In Vain?
