Balm for those suffering through the Tim-de-Robinned storyline

WARNING: This post contains MASSIVE spoilers for Static Shock episode 4.12, "Kidnapped"!

Is the current storyline in Robin hurting you? Do you want to do unspeakable things to Jack Drake? Do you want to make sure Bill Willnghamfucktard never works in this town again?

If so, then hopefully this will make you feel better. It helped me.

The premise of this week's (new) episode is that Virgil's dad, Robert Hawkins, is kidnapped by a new villain who has discovered Static's identity and wants to get at him through his father. Static meets her at her lair, and after learning what she wants, asks to see his father. Robert is being held in a cage of laser beams, which our baddie threatens to turn inward if Static tries anything funny.

Static: [extra-deep crime-fightin'-guy voice] Mr... Hawkins, I'm... glad to see you're okay.
Robert: You can drop the act, Virgil.
Static: You know?
Robert: Wasn't hard to figure out. Why else kidnap me to get to Static?
And maybe... maybe, in the back of my mind, I've always known.
Static: Oh, Pops. I never meant to put you in danger. I swear.
Robert: I know that, son. I don't blame you. But it's quite a shock to find out your son's a superhero!
[Robert looks over at our villain.]
Robert: Who is this woman, and what does she want?
Static: She calls herself "Omnara." Wants me to steal something.
Robert: What? You can't--!
Static: Pops, please. I gotta. There's no other way.
Robert: Virgil, this is crazy.
Static: I know. I know!
But if I ever get us out of this, I promise, I'll give up this superhero stuff. I don't want anything like this to happen again. I mean it.

And here Omnara interrupts, and sends Virgil off on her errand. Eeeeek and aaaaaiiieeee, but already we've got a better story than poor Tim's.

Virgil does the deed, and then, because of course it couldn't be simple, has to go do another. This time Gear -- Richie Foley, Virg's best friend and partner-in-crimefighting since even before his own metahuman ability manifested -- shows up to stop him. (Richie has a damned fine backside for an underaged cartoon; must be the spandex. Or maybe it's just the gay.) Omnara's listening in, so Virgil puts on a good show of fighting him on her order, but manages to slip Richie a hint about what's up while disabling Richie's ability to immediately follow him when he makes his escape.

Meanwhile, back at the villainous lair, Omnara is drunk with her newfound power. Virgil makes the best of the opportunity, and levitates his dad out through the laser grid. They make their escape, along with Richie, but Omnara notices soon enough, and launches a massive missile attack on Dakota.

Static: Pops, remember that promise I made you?
Robert: Go do what you have to... superhero.
Static: Thanks. [to Gear] Come on!

La la avert the attack, la la climactic battle. Omnara is defeated, of course, and crippling her powers leaves her in a vegetative state. Static and Gear watch as she's loaded into an ambulance.

Gear: Her mind is totally overloaded.
Static: Well. I guess she won't be communicating my secret identity to anyone... ever.
Gear: She won't... but will anyone else?
[They both look over to where Robert is sitting with his head in his hands.]
Robert: I don't know, boys. I just don't know.
I mean, the idea of you two going out and facing danger every day...
Static: But Pops, we've been doing it for a long time now!
Gear: Yeah, and we're pretty good at it!
Robert: Yes, but I didn't know about it before! Now that I do...
[Robert walks a short distance away.]
Gear: It... sounds like you don't want us to be superheroes anymore.
Robert: I guess I don't.
[Richie and Virgil slump, behind him.]
Robert: But you were given these powers.
[The boys perk back up, with adorable matching smiles.]
Robert: And you'll have to decide for yourselves when to use them. For me to stop you just wouldn't be right.
Static: Pops, you're the greatest!
Gear: The greatest, squared... Exponentially!

I love my show. LOVE.

edited to add link to schedule of current/upcoming Static Shock episodes, because this show needs all the pimping I can give it

Static Shock gives me warm and fuzzy feelings inside. And your plot synopsis has made them come back right now, which is good because I was about to kill something. Thanks.
