A little story to tide us over

I have had a week of stress and too-much-to-do, which seems unfair given that this is supposed to be a holiday week and half the people I know have the whole week off. That's the main reason I haven't been around, and one reason I haven't been writing. Another reason I haven't been writing is that I've been blocked; not the have-no-ideas kind, the everything-I-think-of-sounds-like-crap kind, even wrt my WIPs.

Anyway, for whatever reason, I'm over that, if not over the busy (my schedule for the day includes wheelchair tuneup, miscellaneous errands, physical therapy, and a six-hour journey down to Te-land) and so: flashfic.

Thanks to Te and Mary for always being inspirational, even when I'm just rereading Jason stories they wrote months ago.

Warnings: The following story does not ignore the parts of canon in which the new Red Hood is Jason Todd.

That We Remembered

They keep acting like he must not remember everything, or doesn't remember things *right*. But he remembers.

Even Joker's crowbar, and bomb.

He also remembers the way he -- they -- used to do things. Putting criminals in jail felt good.

But they just got out again. Batman put Jay's own dad in jail. Twice.

He's the same Jason he always was.

And if it makes him a little crazy that they can't accept that he could get here from there without, like, evil possession or supervillain brainwashing...

At least him being a little crazy is one thing everyone can agree on.

Title taken from line 28 of Avon's Harvest by Edwin Arlington Robinson, one of my favourite poets.

I have no idea how I wound up writing so much gen
Never fear, though -- not all of my DCU fic is gen
And not all of my fanfiction is set in the DCU either

And it's this little detail yet to be revealed that will give me faith in the DC folks or give them up entirely for fools. Nice work, Jack!

Wheelchair tune-up - are there specialist wheelchair mechanics? Do they still get grease on their hands, and wear overalls, and chain smoke?

I imagine them like the all leather prof Xavier from that one terrifying issue in the eighties.

Ah. It always amazes me how one one little sentence can just... arrow right into my chest & steal my breath. Thanks Jack. I hope your week gets less busy & stressed. ^_^

Jason --

Jay's own dad, huh? Really, Jay.

Somehow I feel better about this boy when he has a Blackbird. That's probably not healthy.

Jaaaaaaaaay.

And everyone can totally agree on the crazy thing, it's just that some of us consider it a bit endearing (seems like coming back from the dead should have repercussions, at least).

In short: Jaaaaaaaaay.

I think every line here made me shiver a little.

And now for something completely different.
