So I realised recently that it's been over a year since I posted any fic here. Granted, I've been largely gafiated, and also mostly not writing (you didn't think I was writing and hoarding it all away to myself, I hope), but still. The main purpose of this LJ is inflicting sharing my fanfic with the world.

Somewhat more recently, it's occurred to me that 1 April is a fine day for posting humorous stories. (Not prank stories; I'm inclined to look on a tradition based on Christian disdain for pre-Christian traditions with a jaundiced eye.) It lets me get into the spirit of fun that's come to be associated with the day without feeling like I'm marginalising anyone.

And in that spirit, I present:

Auld Lang Syne (Gotham) -- Nightwing | Dick Grayson ...and 'friends' )

Edited to add: Several people audienced this story for me, back before I nearly forgot to post it. I cannot remember who they are, because I suck, but if they remind me in comments, I will give credit where it's due.

It's only logical: Not all DCU fic by the Jack is humour
It's also logical: Not all Jack's fanfiction is DCU-based

I have had a week of stress and too-much-to-do, which seems unfair given that this is supposed to be a holiday week and half the people I know have the whole week off. That's the main reason I haven't been around, and one reason I haven't been writing. Another reason I haven't been writing is that I've been blocked; not the have-no-ideas kind, the everything-I-think-of-sounds-like-crap kind, even wrt my WIPs.

Anyway, for whatever reason, I'm over that, if not over the busy (my schedule for the day includes wheelchair tuneup, miscellaneous errands, physical therapy, and a six-hour journey down to Te-land) and so: flashfic.

Thanks to Te and Mary for always being inspirational, even when I'm just rereading Jason stories they wrote months ago.

Warnings: The following story does not ignore the parts of canon in which the new Red Hood is Jason Todd.

That We Remembered )

...to all some, specifically those of a DC-comics bent who aren't squicked by villain pairings in general or either of these blokes in particular.

Hey, neither [livejournal.com profile] yuletide nor [livejournal.com profile] jbbs are up quite yet, so what better time to post? I ask you.

A week ago, [livejournal.com profile] thete1, [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary and [livejournal.com profile] brown_betty were passing the crack-pipe round chatting about 'One Year Later' and what it might mean for various characters. (Read more...) or ignore the fake-cut link to the posted log and just read the relevant portion here:
[01:10] Mary: It's One Year Later... Hush is Catwoman.
[01:10] Mary: It's One Year Later... Hush is Aquaman.
    [...]
    [01:15] Te: AND ALSO SLADE
[01:15] Te: He renames himself Slash, and thus excuses the fact that I keep typing that anyway for 'Slade.'
[01:15] Mary: It's One Year Later... Slade is the entire cast of the Titans.
    [01:15] Mary: AHAHAHA.
[01:15] Mary: SLASH IS THE NAME OF THE SLADE/HUSH PAIRING
[01:16] Mary: I DEMAND IT BE SO.

So, quite naturally (oh, come on, have you read anything by Mary? Ever? She can make the most forgettable or detestable characters fascinating and endearing) I said, "So is Mary going to write some Slash? Because now I want it."

Uh, okay, apparently *I* wrote some. ::facepalms:: MARY MADE ME DO IT. SHE HAS POWERS. THING. )

I would just like to point out for the record that this is SQUARELY MARY'S FAULT.

So, the end of last week, [livejournal.com profile] sparcck was having a crap day and asked for cheering "fic or art or icons or ramblies or drabbles or tigs or something." I wanted to make her something, and naturally thought some LSH-fic would be just the thing.

Except I don't know Legion -- current or otherwise -- aside from the crossover with TEEN TITANS and the gorgeous Cyanotype series. At all.

I wrote her some Brainy/Lyle anyway. Though I suppose you have to kind of squint to see the pairing, and also know it's there.

On the other hand, completely all-ages appropriate.

Warnings: Cuteness and mild schmoop.

Pick-Me-Up )

Original comment version is here. I wanted to repost it, if nothing else, because there was a glaring dumbass grammar error right in the first line. And also because I keep hearing there isn't enough LSH fic out there, and everybody should get their fic itches scratched.

That's nice. Now how about some stories about Earth-based DC heroes?
Surely there must be something Jack's written that isn't comics-based?

This is all Te's fault. By which I mean, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thete1 for inspiration; to [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary, [livejournal.com profile] petronelle and [livejournal.com profile] thete1 for audiencing; and to [livejournal.com profile] brown_betty for a frustrating (for her) beta.

Title taken from the song "Redwing" by Dan Messe, which, again, [livejournal.com profile] thete1. (Someday, I will hear this song, instead of just reading the lyrics.)

Contains themes some readers may find disturbing, but no explicit or violent language. Is safe for my mother (though not necessarily yours) to read.

Still with me? Okay, story.

I'm trying to work on -- *wanting* to work on -- two of my WIPs. (This one and this one, for those of you playing the home game.) So of course I wrote another, unrelated story, in its entirety, this afternoon.

::facepalms::

I blame Te, for asking a question that led to this. And [livejournal.com profile] jamjar for inspiring the question.

Contains content that may not be appropriate for all readers. Also contains giant woobie.

Thanks to Te and Mary for audiencing; and, to borrow a phrase from [livejournal.com profile] cereta, [livejournal.com profile] elynross made this better.

Fandom: DC Comics (BIRDS OF PREY)

Summary: The Birds are on the hunt.
Spoilers: References events introduced in BoP #75 and the War Games storyline in the Gotham titles, as well as numerous older comics.

Notes: Futurefic. Not necessarily AU at time of writing, but certain to become more clearly so as time goes on, and intended as AU. The future posited has eaten my head and there's a good likelihood of sequels. There's an excellent chance that anyone reading will be unfamiliar with at least one of the characters referred to in the story, but google is a treasure of a research tool.

Acknowledgments: Written for Rysler ([livejournal.com profile] joran) in the [livejournal.com profile] femslash05 challenge organised by Sophia Jirafe ([livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix). Thanks to my assigned recipient for giving me carte blanche to play with Huntress, Oracle, Batgirl, Black Canary, Renee, and/or Shiva in any combination; thanks to Te [livejournal.com profile] thete1 for pointing me in an intriguing direction when I was flailing at all the possibilities. Additional thanks to Te, Livia [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn and Petra [livejournal.com profile] petronelle for audiencing and sharing beta thoughts which helped me make this story better. Finally, thanks to Jean-Francois [livejournal.com profile] cccarioca and Prop [livejournal.com profile] notpoetry for lending their knowledge of archery for my reference, and to Ang [livejournal.com profile] evadne_ for sharing fantastic info about Dawn Granger (although she didn't make it into this story, even by mention, she's there in my head; she stays in one of those cabins regularly). You all remember the crack generator, right? (That's the extra-cracktastic one with porn cliches like sex pollen and amnesia mixed in.) Well, Te and I were playing with it again.

I think 'both write a story based on the same generator result' is my new favourite version of the crack game...

Er, chagrin... )

I swear, I'd leave my head behind if it weren't so firmly attached to my arse.

Anyway, story. (: This was written for the 2004 While We Dream of Yuletide Treasure rare fandoms Secret Santa fanfiction challenge. Thanks go to my recipient, [livejournal.com profile] lectito, for a truly inspirational Yuletide request ("Like the filthy monkey") -- though she bailed on her own assignment, never acknowledged the story I wrote for her and has now deleted her journal, this story probably never would have been written if she hadn't requested it, and that has to count for something; to [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana and [livejournal.com profile] thete1, for providing a responsive audience when I needed one; and to [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn, for a fantastically thorough beta of the original version. Further thanks to Te for suggesting the POV change that, I think, dramatically improved the story in this version. You can decide for yourself after reading the original version on the Yuletide archive.

Oh, and this isn't -- quite -- DC comics fandom. It's The Authority, which is a comics title published by Wildstorm, one of DC's subsidiaries. Yep, the comic with the canonically gay superhero couiple.

Continuity note: Set between the storylines "The Circle" and "Shiftships" during Warren Ellis's run on THE AUTHORITY vol. 1 (1999). No spoilers, and you don't necessarily have to have read the Ellis issues, though having done so will (hopefully) add to your appreciation.

Happy birthday to the Keeper of the Shrines to the Even-Numbered Robins! May your day be (or have been, considering it's almost over already Down Under) full of fun and squee.

I wrote you a story. I'd say you could archve it at the oscillating domain, but this is a Robin you haven't made a site for ...yet. ::grins::

Story notes: Carrie Kelley, 250 words. Will make little sense to those fortunate enough to be unfamiliar with The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

Yesterday, leavening a post of LOVE with a bit of peeve, Te complained about stories in which Robin-bashing words are put into the mouths or minds of other characters as a way of (allegedly more so than in practice, I think) making another Robin look better by comparison.

After reading her post, I decided to express my agreement in the form of a satirical drabble. For your reading and my archiving convenience, I'm re-posting the little slip of a story here, with a shiny new title appended.

So [livejournal.com profile] notpoetry and I were chatting about part two of the JLU season finale ("The Once and Future Thing") a few hours ago, and naturally with as many hot characters as were crammed into proximity and shown interacting, porny thoughts were paramount.

I took one of my dialogue sniplets and expanded it into a drabble. (Look, [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown, it's exactly 100 words!)

I have tons of other people's fic and meta yet to respond to (LJ, why must you be so interesting?), from the last couple of days on top of older stuff I'm still not caught up on, not to mention all the (many and thought-provoking) comments on my own meta poll I posted yesterday. But I decided I should post this while it's fresh.

So Te and LC and I were talking last night about Tim as an anime-style catboi. (Don't question.) In yet another case of fandom zeitgeist TM, Livia and Sarah had a similar yet unrelated conversation about a felinised and more-sexually-available *Dick*.

Then Liv and I were comparing notes this morning, and then I read this post of Mary's, and... well, I blame Houie's chat-sketch java applet for its ready availability.

I am Robin, hear me roar! )

The chat-sketch applet can be found here, but you'll need the password from [livejournal.com profile] percy_weatherby's journal.

While I'm at it, here's the first sketch I did with the applet:

Nightwing swinging )

Um... In my defence, it's a Java-applet sketching program with eleven colours and very little in the way of tools. I can draw better than that, just not with the palm of my hand pushing a mouse around. I don't know how Houie creates the beatuiful things he does with the applet, except that he's better than I am at sketching with any medium I've seen him use so far.

In other news, I extended my paid Photobucket account this morning. If you're using Photobucket (and really, if not, why not? Best image-hosting service ever!) and can afford to, I encourage you to maintain or upgrade to a paid account as well. It's well worth the US$2-3/month.

Begun as chatporn to lift Te's mood during the LJ blackout; beaten into the form of an actual story for that same Kink Challlenge which Te posted this and this for.

Set in the animated universe, rather than the comics, for a change. I've tried writing toon!Tim porn before, and succeeded in Timmy slash if not, quite, smut. This time? Well, there's certainly sex herein. And also Dick!

Thanks to Te for audiencing and for invaluable beta suggestions, including this important reminder: "You can get away with a lot when it comes to toon!Tim. Bukkake, spankings, gratuitous bondage, bisexuality... but not semi-colons."

I meant to get this done and posted yesterday, in honour of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but as it turns out I need sleep.

It's not that there aren't black / African-American characters in the DCU (though there could be more) but they get written about in fanfiction even less than they could be. The day Dr. King's birthday is celebrated here in the States seemed a good time to address that by writing about at least one such character.

Thanks to Te for requesting Detective Cris Allen as a focus character and for audiencing, and to [livejournal.com profile] siviusx (a promising new DCU fan-writer you should all check out) for her beta thoughts. Any errors or suck are on my head alone.

Beside his foot, the surface of the roof is gravel under layers of tar. )

Title taken from Reverend King's Eulogy for the Young Victims of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Bombing, written in September 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama.

I encourage others to write and post (or re-post) stories about African-American characters this week, as well... or take a little longer and post them during February, which is Black History Month in the U.S. I'm not going to call it a challenge, because I've got all I can handle in that department, and there are enough other challenges going on right now in comics fandom besides, but... Challenge yourselves anyway.

Oh, right. I should post this to my journal.

I was assigned to write for [livejournal.com profile] wanderlustlover Amanda in 2004's first annual Jingle Bells, Batman Smells challenge ([livejournal.com profile] jbbs). She had requested Troia (Donna Troy), Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Robin (Tim Drake) and/or Starfire (Koriand'r) for characters. Now since I've written Dick and Tim* -- more than once -- I thought I'd at least give writing the gals a try.

Te kindly let me read her copies of the last several issues of THE TITANS (I only own the beginning of the run), and I saw that Kory and Donna were getting chummier by the end of issue #50... which was the last issue before TITANS and YOUNG JUSTICE rebooted as TEEN TITANS (v. 3) and OUTSIDERS (v. 2). I couldn't find any explanation in canon for where Kory was during the GRADUATION DAY miniseries or at the funeral service on Themyscira, much less what she was really doing when Cassie discovered her in Donna's bedroom, so I came up with my own explanations.

Once I Had a Sadness )

Title from "This Was Pompeii" by Dar Williams.

*I'd intended to add a final scene to the story, touching on Dick and Tim and their reactions to the events of GRADUATION DAY. That wound up not happening, but I may yet write their scene as a coda to this story...

Yeah, so, this idea had been kicking round my head lately, and this morning I decided to see whether I could get it out in coherent fashion.
