So Sarah T (yes, the Sarah T who maintains [livejournal.com profile] marvelfic_index and Level Three) was musing earlier today about the sameness of recent Smallville fic. I wouldn't know; I still watch Smallville when there's a new ep, but I lost interest in participating in the fandom or even reading the fiction some months ago.

"Couldn't [Clark and Lex] at least smooch in Atlantis, or in a nano-submersible in somebody's bloodstream, or something?" Sarah asked. She HAD to ask.

Clearly I doomed myself when I said, just this afternoon, that I'd probably never write SV again. )

Title taken from Edwin Arlington Robinson's "Pasa Thalassa Thalassa" -- "The sea is everywhere the sea."

Story originally posted in a comment on Sarah's LJ here.

The lovely LaT issued this spiffy cool Isn't It Iconic? challenge last month (see here for the original challenge) and, having fallen into a bit of a monofannish rut after the "While We Tell of [livejournal.com profile] yuletide Treasure" rareslash challenge, I decided an excuse to stretch my writing muscles would be a good thing.

I couldn't pick just two of my own icons to have a story written for, so I signed up to write two stories. (I'd say, foolishly, but I got them both done and they seem to have turned out all right.) Both my stories ran over the 750-word mark, but I did at least keep them under 1000.

Though the Spike/Giles icon [livejournal.com profile] kelex offered as an alternate icon for the challenge was intriguing, I didn't feel up to tackling that image. Instead, the story I wrote for Kelex was inspired by this icon:

Jenn asked for this pairing. And well, that was awhile ago, but she promised to write a pairing of my choice in exchage, and promptly rejected the first two pairings I asked for, which kinda wasn't the best goad for me to get off my procrastinating arse. The story also answers Tham's Licking Challenge, though it's rather past deadline.

Heartfelt thanks to Bex and Erica for their beta aid, to Lina for her invaluable dialogue assist, and to Te for helping get that one stubborn clause to finally work. Other author's notes follow the story.

Edited to add:

Final version posted at Smallville Slash Archive here on 23 November 2003.

Also, since I've been asked about the title: Google is your friend, as is YourDictionary.com

And I will answer feedback comments, really! Ack. I can't believe I forgot this story was here.

I was supposed to write about 1.5k of NaNoZombiefic yesterday, and do... another thing, for Te. But stuff happened, and I didn't get nearly as far with either as I'd intended.

Plus, this story mugged me... random S&M fic that possessed the Jack in chat last night )

Yeah. See, it all started when...

and you may ask yourself, well, how did I get here? )

...And then a few minutes later, I suddenly found myself writing it anyway.

Waaay over the deadline, but here's my answer to this week's "goodbye" challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] wednesday100:

"Farewell"

Jor-El stands beside me, pontificating. He loves making pompous, portentious speeches, and this is the opportunity of his lifetime.

"You carry with you the hope and destiny of our entire planet, my son."

He drones sonorously on; eventually I stop listening. I've heard it all before. Hours of his lectures are programmed into the vehicle he's built, but no machine could relay my love to Kal-El, or my grief over having to abandon him.

Jor-El finally finishes. I watch the tiny craft that cradles our child rise into the sky until its glint of reflected light is lost among the stars.

would you like some smut with that?

The title is a quotation from Publilius Syrus.

Thanks to Victoria [livejournal.com profile] musesfool for her discerning beta eye.

Oh, and spoilers for "Phoenix," season 3 episode 2.

Okay, it's rather over the proper length -- 250 words instead of 100 -- but! It fits this week's [livejournal.com profile] wednesday100 island challenge, and follows "Exodus" without spoiling anything that's happened in season 3 (for people like [livejournal.com profile] kittyfisher who don't get new eps promptly), and addresses [livejournal.com profile] seperis Jenn's consternation about the way RedK is working this time around (that link leads to many spoilers), and uses all the words [livejournal.com profile] andariell gave me to write into her birthday fic: transparent, grate, broken, snarl. I can perhaps be forgiven for going over, I hope...

"These City Walls"

The rain started just outside the city. Clark drove aimlessly through Metropolis all night, getting soaked. Leather jacket stiffened, t-shirt nearly transparent, he felt like something out of Pete's spring break video stash. Yesterday he'd felt drawn here, like he somehow belonged in Metropolis, but the feeling evaporated, or maybe washed away in the rain.

A flash overhead: skyscrapers reflecting the lightening sky. Metropolis was waking, traffic welling in the drenched streets, and the harsh sounds and echoes were starting to grate. Not that he missed the boring crickets and lowing cows of Smallville. The light at the next intersection turned amber; Clark slowed, stopped. In the middle of the street, under a broken DON'T WALK sign, a girl in a pastel business suit stood on an island of sidewalk, vehicles flowing around her. When the light changed, she was still stranded. He wasn't rescuing her, he told himself, just getting that little business skirt to ride up when she climbed behind him. Clark paused at the kerb beside her, opened his mouth, then noticed the headline screaming from a Daily Planet box. Newlywed Luthors Lost At Sea?

Honks and shouts from drivers he cut off clamored behind Clark as he sped away. Lex had gone through with it after all. And now... Nobody ever survived plane crashes. Clark's hand caught in a snarl pushing through his damp hair. Just as well he'd sworn off playing hero.

Pete's secret fear was dying a virgin. The idea had never sounded so good.

The Clark/Louis story I started in chat the other night is still in progress, for those who might be wondering.

I've been wanting to play over at [livejournal.com profile] wednesday100 since I first stumbled across it, but Wednesdays haven't been good for my connection-challenged self, of late. Anyway, speaking of late, here's my entry for this week's 'no Clark, no Lex' challenge.

"Confidentiality"

It was the sex that tipped him off.

Her sudden acquiesence, after years of unequivocal brush-offs, made Helen seem almost to pursue him. Possible explanations for this apparent change of heart were few, and his longstanding policy of monitoring her activities soon revealed the true motive.

Helen's work didn't require equipment normally found in genetics laboratories. She had easy access to her husband's DNA, and Lionel's penchant for bedding his heir's women had provided the comparison sample. Helen's evidence now cluttered his desk, though her results had been no surprise.

He'd take this secret to his grave -- as Helen had, overnight. Lex was his son, blood be damned.

Author's notes:

I can't stop you from reading subtext into this story, but I didn't put it there. For once.

Thanks to Te for letting me pester her into beta'ing this (closed course, professional driver, do not attempt); any remaining errors, omissions or awkwardness are mine. Thanks to Jenn for asking for mistletoe fic, thus inspiring the story into existence. Thanks to Isilya for the title, and the rest of the PSG for their encouragement.

I'm definitely leaning towards "Ruby-Throated" for a title, especially since [livejournal.com profile] slodwick saw fit to manip me such a gorgeous cover. It gets considerably more smutty here, though they still aren't quite naked. Lex is taking his sweet time.

Thanks again to my audiencers, and if I've left anyone out, do please thwap me. I promise to get Lex past third base. Eventually. He and I are making this up as we go along.

not quite finished yet, as I reached my "eep! must get offline NOW" point, too. sorry, erica -- will get back to it asap, which unfortunately will still be at minimum 4 hours from now. edit: still not finished. sigh. mulling "Ruby-Throated" for a title.

needs title... and an ending )

thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o for the concept and push- er, enabling; to Jess [livejournal.com profile] dammitcarl for saving the story from oblivion when AIM laid down Murphy's law on me; and to them, Val [livejournal.com profile] grrleloquence, [livejournal.com profile] slodwick, [livejournal.com profile] isilya, Caro [livejournal.com profile] linabean, and [livejournal.com profile] jcalanthe for audiencing me through this far.

So [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o posted some WIP ficlets in her LJ, mislabelled Dead Fic Snippets. I feel the need to point out that fic snippets never die, they just rattle around in the back of your mind (and your LJ and your friends' hard drives) until their time comes to revive and grow.

Case in point...

When I first wrote the first part of this, I thought it was a dead end and would never amount to anything. Then [livejournal.com profile] isilya encouraged me, with anvil-level subtlety, to write something sweet and cuddly, and suddenly there was more to it.

Warning: Entirely free of twisted wrongness.

I should probably stop posting new fic five times a week. Oh well.

So [livejournal.com profile] slodwick made me yet another wonderful new icon, with the most fabulously creepy Lex/Lionel manip on it, and a Luthorworthy quotation from the Bard. And as I stared at it this morning in rapt admiration... it started telling me a story.

The following little slip of a story is gen, so don't come complaining to me if you read it and don't find any smut, twisted wrong or otherwise.

So there I was innocently chatting with the PSG crew, when...
Jenn: Whoa doggies. There's a plotbunny for you!
Jenn: Gabriella had her baby in Metropolis, then had a sex change operation before moving to Smallville, hence Gabe.
Jenn: Oh man. If someone wrote this, I would so be your slave for life.
Jenn: The angst! The--well, kinda bizarrity.
Jack: aren't you my slave already?
She's claiming not, so I wrote this anyway. Minimal editing so far, just fixed some tense errors and typos, stripped out the AIM tags and sorted all the orphan lines into paragraphs.

Family Resemblance )

Isilya helped with the last line. Otherwise, this is -- say it with me -- all Jenn's fault.

And yes, Tara, I'll post to Girl Friday and Tall Tales after it's been betaed and beaten a bit. Having written it in all of maybe 15 minutes, I shudder to imagine how it'll look to me in a week.

I owe fanfiction survey results, yes, I know. I've been working on them, honest, but it takes time (plus I'm ridiculously anal, which hardly expedites matters). But! In my own defence, I've been writing. And inciting others to write.

So the one that's actually been draining my time isn't done, yet. I may post part of it later in the week. In the meantime,

The Smallville Slash Short Story You Already Know

They were just sitting in the loft, like a thousand other times, and he grinned at Lex's latest quip, holding his gaze maybe a moment too long, when suddenly, finally, Lex kissed him; and before Clark knew it his jeans were around his ankles and he was coming in Lex's mouth; and when the white-out cleared he was on his back on the couch, two of Lex's fingers in him, stretching, then three, then Lex slid into him and fucked his virgin ass until he was screaming Clark's name and shooting hot hot semen inside him; and then he held Lex while they both cried; and somehow all their secrets came out; and they slept in each others' arms.

The end.

Lookit that, so short it didn't need a cut-tag.

And yes, I am quite, quite mad.
buggery: (Default)
Apparently my writer's block is clearing up, cos here's another story done and ready to go. In another recent trend, this is all [livejournal.com profile] seperis Jenn's fault -- no, really, it's a flashback for her latest epic, for which she requires much stalking and prodding from all her fans.

It's also [livejournal.com profile] grrleloquence Val's birthday present, or the part of it she's getting close to her actual birthday, anyway. It was actually yesterday, and I missed it cos I suck and wasn't paying attention. Happy Birthday, Val! Mwah!

And, if I can cajole her into accepting it at this late date, it's also part of Kassie's Crayola Challenge.

Finally, this will be posted to the SSA once it's back up, hopefully soon.
edit: Archived. Follow the link for the final version.

The SSA copy is now fixed all nice, thanks to super-archivist [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn I'll leave this copy up too, though.

Spoilers: Mild for first season, mainly "Leech" and "Crush," and a construably spoilery reference to "Heat" which gives nothing away... I wrote this before I saw "Heat," so there's not much I could give away.

Pairing: Now that would be telling.

Notes: Fucked-up blowjob fic, emphasis on the fucked-up. All Jenn's fault, and beta-ing does not make up for it, Jenn. Huge thanks to Hope, who's just the best beta reader ever.
