Recent trends in comics fandom (and elsewhere) have been provoking my feminist rage pretty frequently, and I've been increasingly aware of my need for an icon that can express my feeling of GRARRR at such times.

Then Te and I watched a Robot Chicken rerun -- the one with the Santa Claus murder mystery, and the digression, "You ever see a yeti with a dozen condoms of coke burst in his belly?" The ensuing rampage inspired me to say, "that! That's what I need for my growly rage icon..."

Happily, some other [adult swim] fan put the digression segment of the Claus sketch up on YouTube, meaning both that you can watch it here (behind the cut) ) and that I was able to screencap the yeti wreaking havoc for iconnage purposes. Alt + PrntScrn is your friend and mine.

Let the yeti express your rage! In icon form! )

For those who might question the appropriateness of a yeti as spokesicon of *feminist* rage, I have three points to make: first, that the yeti in question clearly has breasts (#6 provides the best view); second, that drug mules around the world are predominantly female, and there's no reason to presume that trend would change north of the arctic circle, despite that elf's pronoun slip; third and finally, feminism (and by extension feminist rage) isn't just for women.

Do you love Superman, Batman, and/or Robin? Are you a fanchild at heart? Does your mother have an embarassing photo of you in Underoos or a homemade superhero costume tucked away somewhere?

I have an icon for you.

This icon has already been claimed by [livejournal.com profile] lcsbanana, but the blank version, and three other icon bases featuring the same DC-comics-loving kidlet, are available behind the cut )

This seems as good a place as any -- other than a Gratuitous Icon Post -- to point out that I'm now using a new-and-improved version of my 'DC Crack' icon, now with extra Dick.

Incidentally... if you want an icon I've made? Be sure that it's one I've offered for general use. Somebody recently took an icon I had made for my own use, without asking other than in an old post I made mentioning the icon and without waiting for me to say yes before setting it as their default. I haven't been using the icon myself just lately, but I had planned to rotate it back in at some point. I do make icon posts from time to time for the express purpose of sharing them, but that doesn't mean any icon I use myself is up for grabs. Thanks.

Earlier this week, Pablo ([livejournal.com profile] evil_man) posted a set of icons based on Les Toil's art.

Pablo did a lovely job with his icons (the nude in my icon is from his set), but I found myself still hungry for variety beyond hair colour and pose, so I went to Les's gallery myself and found more big, beautiful women -- even some who weren't white. So many, in fact, that I couldn't use them all... but that means I have them to share.

Get your big, beautiful women icons here! )

The text of the notation on Les's website regarding use of his images:
All art bearing the Les Toil name and logo means that creation is owned by the artist Les Toil and/or the women who hired him to draw them. If you would like to use the art to create email signatures and other non-profit non-commercial graphic endeavors for the internet, please feel free to do so. All that's requested is proper crediting of the Les Toil name and site somewhere within your group or website.
It's phrased as a request, but I do recommend that people using the icons put Les's URL, or at least his name (which googles readily), in their icon keywords, and/or in a GIP post. Much more important, in this case especially, than crediting me -- which is always optional, anyway.

This will no doubt be only the first of numerous Outsiders icons posts I put up, since there are so many Outsiders, and so many combinations of Outsiders, and the pretty pictures just keep coming, more every month, and feeding my already massive Outsiders-love.

In case anybody missed it, [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn posted Indigo/Shift fic this morning, courtesy the crack generator and another variation of the crack game -- I'm tempted to call it "smut" but there's so much good characterisation work that it feels like I'm not doing the story justice if I do.

Indigo is an amnesiac cybernetic organism from the future. Shift sloughed off Rex (Metamorpho) Morgan while Rex was comatose, and to everyone's surprise achieved self-awareness. Together, they fight crime. In between, they go on dates, usually to bowling alleys or laundromats. No, really.

Icons here )

Te has made a much broader variety of Outsiders icons, which can be found here, here and here.

So DC-comics-fandom zeitgeist seems to be headed in greenish directions. The assorted Green Lanterns past and present; the Green Arrow family, with its long associations with the GL and Flash families (not to mention plenty of incestuous-ish subtext); the Martian Manhunk Manhunter; Gar Logan is even back with the latest incarnation of the Titans.

And that's not remotely all.

I'd been feeling the need to have icons for a bunch of these folks, and these relationships. Several other people around LJ were good enough to share icons of various DCU characters in green, but I needed more. In the process of finding images I liked for my own use, I wound up with... rather more than I needed, or indeed could possibly use on my own.

So now it's my turn to share. These are all .gif format, which is both smaller than a .jpg and animation-ready. If you're planning to make an animated icon, you may share up to five bases (but not claim for exclusive use more than two). Please indicate in comments whether you want dibs on your choice(s) or are willing to share -- if you don't specify otherwise, it will be marked as shareable.

Shared icons marked in green, claimed icons in red.

Green Arrow family )

other green-themed people )

part I with Green Lanterns & Martian Manhunter

The sources for most of these are right in the filenames; "Gar-TT11.gif" is a picture of Gar (Logan) taken from Teen Titans #11, and "ConnorOllie-GASF1.gif" is Connor and Oliver from Green Arrow Secret Files #1.

If you know the source of the asterisked* icon's base image, please comment below, and I'll update the filename.

J'onn J'onzz )

part II with Green Arrow & more

The sources for most of these are right in the filenames; "John-GL156.gif" would be a picture of John (Stewart) taken from Green Lantern #156, and "JonnOllie-JLAJSAVnV.gif" is J'onn J'onzz (PhotoBucket made me take the apostrophes out) and Oliver Queen from JLA/JSA: Virtue & Vice.

If you know the source of any of the asterisked* icons' base images, please comment below, and I'll update the filenames. ETA: Two down, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ratcreature and [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica; thanks to you both!

These are all taken from stills of the preview trailer that Kids' WB recently aired for The Batman, the new animated series coming this fall.

(Somebody gave me the link to the images I used, over the weekend, but I can't find either where the page was or who pointed me to it. If it was you, or you know the source site, please let me know so I can give proper credit.)

The identifying numbers on icons for sharing will be bolded; the numbers on claimed icons will be crossed out.

Preview:

01) 02) 03) 04)

and more under the cut )

Credit in keywords and/or first post with icon appreciated, but not necessary.

As usual, first come, first served. Please say whether you are willing to share an icon or want to claim it for your exclusive use; if you don't specify, the icon will be flagged for sharing. Also please check the comments to be sure no one else has already claimed (or is sharing) any icons you want, since I can't be online to update the shared and claimed markers 24/7. Finally, please limit yourself to 2 or 3 icons until everyone's had a chance at them (exception for those wanting multiple blanks for the purpose of making their own animated icon, who may share up to five in that case but still not claim more than two).

I went crazy and made a ton of icons, mostly from issue #765 of Detective Comics -- not so much to use myself, as to farm out, the better to aid me in my mission of comix fandoms pimpery.

Te nabbed a few of them already, but as she's hosting the images for me, giving her first dibs seems only fair.

Preview:

1)  2)  3)

The Authority's Midnighter and Apollo; Batman enjoying himself at a disco; and Josie MacDonald, one of Gotham's Finest. (Disco-Batman has been claimed, but there are blanks within from which similar animated icons can be made.)

and several dozen more under the cut... )

Claimed icons -- icons that someone has taken to use who is not willing to share -- will have a strike through their number. Shared icons, which at least one person is already using a variation of, will have their number bolded.

Since I can't be here 24/7, though, do so please check through the comments to make sure the icon you want hasn't already been claimed if you want to share (or being shared if you want to claim, for that matter). I'm a sharing type, myself, so I encourage everyone to let others use any blanks they take a fancy to, too, but it's first-come, first-served.

edited to fix numbering and a couple of bad hrefs
