She did say a few things that make a certain amount of sense, but I'm not sure that's attributable to more than the infinite-monkeys effect. For example, yes, if school systems are spending precious education dollars on replacing red ink with lavender ink on the premise that marking students' papers in red ink is too stressful, that's a knuckleheaded policy which ought to be challenged and changed... but it did not escape my notice that, during the interview, when Jon Stewart asked her (I'm paraphrasing) "Wow, that's insane, how widespread, or where are the school systems that are doing that?" she evaded the question rather than answering it.
As for your mother's classroom, I know most school systems encourage parents to come into the classroom and volunteer their time to help the teacher, but I've never heard of a situation where parents were allowed to come into and remain in a classroom when all they're doing is disrupting the class and interfering with other childrens' right to learn. Even kids who are disruptive are sent out of the room, after all, and schools do still have say over who can be in a classroom when class is in session, even if the 'who' in question only wants to observe. It sounds to me like maybe your mother and/or her boss just needs to be more self-assertive in setting boundaries with the parents you describe. If the school wasn't coddling the parents, they wouldn't be able to interfere with your mother doing her job of teaching.
