::boggles at your mother's attitude:: If the whole system is socialised, quality of care would go UP, because everyone would have the option of going to the best doctors, and, thanks to patients voting with their pocketbooks (not to mention word getting around), lousy doctors would be weeded out.
The only kids who enjoyed dodgeball, at least at the schools I went to, were the ones who were good at it *and* thought it was great fun to have adult sanction to marginalise other kids. I actually got pretty damned good at it, myself, and was frequently one of the last few kids out... because it was always the "popular" jock-type boys who had possession of the ball, and you *had* to be good to dodge that ball when the bullies with the best aim threw the ball extra-hard at you, so you wouldn't go home with huge bruises.
In retrospect, if I'd taken more direct hits instead of glancing blows, Children's Services might have investigated...
