So there was never an official (or unofficial) policy of separating Maori children from their families and raising them in a whitewashed adoptive or institutional setting "for their own good" so they could grow up and theoretically assimilate into white Westernised society (which according to the "theory" wouldn't treat them differently based on their appearance, ha), as happened in both Oz and the US in the late 19th and early 20th century? I confess I am mostly ignorant about Aotearoa's history, even as regards race relations and colonial-vs.-indigenous cultural clashes.
