fanfic squee of the week

buggeryBecause there's probably enough I love to gush about every day, but I'm making little enough progress on writing as it is. Just the same, there may be weeks with multiple squees.
This week: fic that makes me think. Stories that show me a new way of interpreting a character's motives, or that extrapolate unexpected yet in-character actions, or that put the characters in a situation that reveals new nuances of their personality? Love that stuff. Stories which incorporate insights into the show's past, present or future that I wish I'd had, that spawn further ideas, 'what-if's and 'so-that's-why's, that make me want to add the story to my own personal fanon? Those, I adore. I lie in bed at night, mulling the implications of things I've read. And there's tons of stories of this calibre out there.
I've said it many times, but it bears repeating: Smallville is not only a prolific fandom with a lot of exceptionally good writers, it's also blessed with some exceptionally good and prolific writers. We're damned lucky.
