Well, I'm a lot more caught up than I was yesterday morning. And I remembered I need to catch up on comment replies to my own posts, thanks to Fay's linking to my flannel-over-titanium rant. Working on both. Meanwhile...

If you follow my journal at all, you probably know I'm not really one for quizzes and surveys and memes and whatnot. However, I just can't get over the fact that that nobody else seems to have found this one, so I'm taking it upon myself to start the ganking chain.

gay ass

Your Ass is Gay!

I'm so happy to say.

That your ass is gay.

So come on over,

And I'll stick it today.

What Ass Do *You* Have??

Ah, gay asses. Is there a better kind?

And in case anyone wonders, my arse looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. I mean, it's not Ben Browder-calibre, but then, whose is?

Surprise, surprise. As in, if you're surprised, you simply haven't been paying attention.

The author of this article got one thing very wrong, though: he says "We are only now getting a full vision of Ashcroft's America." Sorry, Mr Turley, but this is precisely the sort of thing I excpected from Ashcroft, right from when his name was merely being bandied about as "under consideration" for the Bush regime Cabinet.

(At no time will you see me refer to a Bush presidency or administration, unless I'm referring to 1988-93; a moment's reflection should make the reason for this obvious.)

This is the sort of thing that the men currently running the United States have been wanting to do from the beginning, and the only thing that's held them back has been the necessity for creating a pretence of a political climate that excuses, nay, calls for it. This is why I shivered at Dubya's introduction of "Homeland Security." This is what's been at the root of every international policy decision the Bush regime has made -- how quickly we forget the middle-school-bully strategy of the spy plane incident with China, in these post-9/11 times.

I'm not surprised. I wish I was surprised. I wish I was still in Europe. I wish I had a convenient Stupid American to kick.

I wish I had no cause, right now, to say "I told you so" to people who said Dubya wasn't substantially worse than John McCain or Al Gore, or who supported him outright.

I wish the phrase "Homeland Security" didn't evoke echoes of Vaderland every time I came across it, or that the parallels were merely as incidental as the concidences shared by the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations.

I wish this was a bad dream I could wake from.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] niqaeli for the link.

This LJ now returns to its regularly scheduled slashly fannishness, already in progress.

Stupid WB

So next Monday and Tuesday, when I'll probably still be home to babysit the vcr, the WB is airing Hug and Kinetic, both of which I have nice clean copies of in their proper order on the proper tape. The 26th and 27th, when I will definitely not be home, they're showing Reaper and Drone... in that order. Backfuckingasswards. And of course the copy of Reaper I have is screwed up and incomplete, and I don't have Drone at all.

After tearing my hair and racking my brain, I figured out a way to get the two eps to record in the right order on the right part of the tape... but to get them to do that, I'll have to tape over FarScape, SG-1 and Brimstone from Friday night. Not that I keep tapes of the first two (unless there's exceptionally slashy bits, in which case I tape the relevant sections onto a slashiness mixed tape during the rebroadcast), but I do like to at least watch them.

And as for Brimstone...

Stupid Sci-Fi

So Sci-Fi started showing Brimstone from the beginning, the weekend before last. Yay, etc., since I hadn't seen but two whole eps from late in the run plus bits and pieces from (I'm guessing) mid-season. Got my copy of the pilot, watched with gusto, played it for D (who's much more amenable to the Brimstone love than the Smallville love thus far, though I'll keep at him), watched it again for good measure.

Then, this past weekend, they aired another ep... but it wasn't #2. It's from somewhere in the mysterious middle. WTF?? Why bother to start the new run with the pilot if you're just going to run them out of order? Why bother running them out of order at all, when you've only got 13 damn eps to work with anyhow?

Arrgh. At least with the bassackwards Brimstone broadcasting I have recourse to [livejournal.com profile] sidewinder's offer of tapes.

Prison Orange

This isn't a GIP, but I did feel like changing my icon, and there it is.
