I went and scouted the finally-newly-opened (it took them over a year to jump through all the city permits and inspections hoops, which I'm sure ::cough:: has nothing to do with the owner-operator being from the Middle East ::cough:: oh, no) all-Halal pizza-and-falafel place last night, in preparation for
lcsbanana's,
thete1's and possibly
geekturnedvamp's impending visits. Incidentally, they're open 11AM to 3AM Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and till midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and they make the. BEST. falafel. I have EVER had on two continents; and they deliver.
But a funny thing happened on the way home.
A woman drove by me blasting Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" at maximum volume, windows down, singing along with her head back and mouth wide open. Not by any means the first time something like this has happened, but it's been a good long while since this sort of behaviour got pervasive enough that arrests were being made.
I think I may have seen a time traveler.
In other news, dawn has suffused downtown with the sort of rich, rose-hued light that, combined with a peculiar tilt of topography, tends to make my (really rather drab and mainly culture-free) city remind me of Paris, and of Monet's paintings. Now the rosy glow has faded to the dim sort of dawnlight that means the sun is above the horizon, but not enough to illuminate the landscape in an invigorating rather than merely functional way. On the other hand, the trees are within a day or three of peak colour.
It's a good day.
I may not be online much the next week or so, what with all the company, and the likelihood of going out of town for a few days myself (again). Keep the internet warm for me, y'all. And if you're an American citizen and will be 18 or older by next Tuesday, by the love of all that's holy VOTE on 2 November.
