Nothing much of interest to my fellow slashers here, but I'm so delighted I'm going to bore you all anyway.

Last year, when I finally got my own place again (shortly before Smallville's shiny gayness brought me back to slashfandom), I had to buy a whole bunch of new furniture. One of the things I was supposed to get was a wonderful mermaid fountain that was built right into an end-table, and which would've matched my new mermaid lamp, dolphin coffee table, and other stuff. Unfortunately, week after week it did not arrive at the store to be delivered, and the manager finally admitted that the fountain table had been discontinued by the manufacturer and was no longer available. Repeated attempts on my part to find another outlet with one of these fountains, or a similar fountain, have all failed dismally.

So here's the good news part. The Chinese and/or Korean discount department store two streets over from me is going out of business and marking stuff down like crazy to move their remaining merchandise. So in addition to much-needed new hats, gloves, pants, housewares and other such little stuff, I managed to haggle the owner chap into letting me have two fountains (they're doing buy-one-get-one to make more stuff move), one originally over $150 and the other still marked $99, for just a hundred dollars.

These are not, incidentally, the $20 tabletop fountains you may be thinking of. The smaller one features two peasant girls pouring water from jugs in cast resin with a bronze finish, and doubles as an art nouveau lamp complete with amber-and-green glass floral shade. The fairy fountain -- the water pours from a lily leaf she's holding over her head -- is hand-painted and stands just under two feet tall. My only complaint is that the fairy fountain currently flows a little too fast and is thus noisy enough that I can't hear the other one when it's on.

And just in time for the dryness of winter weather, with moisture-sucking heaters on driving other people to buy humidifiers. Humidifiers are ugly and noisy.

I have fountains.
