The first thing about Jimmy Olsen? He's Superman's Pal. (Seriously. In years past Jimmy had his own comic series -- not unlike Lois's, and I'll let you draw the mind-bending parallels -- whose title named him "Superman's Pal." He had a little Dick-Tracy watch that could summon Superman from anywhere in the world -- no, Lois did NOT get one -- and on at least one occasion dressed up in girls' clothing for an entire issue. Ah, old-school crack.) Also, he's a photographer attached to the Daily Planet, where he's also friends with mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. He tends, in whatever version of Supes canon you look at (film, television, radio serial, endless reboots of the comics canon) to be just-barely or not-quite old enough to be working for a major newspaper. And he almost always (I'm not-looking at YOU, Lois & Clark: the New Adventures of Superman) has red hair, an unlikely amount of freckles, and even more "boyish charm." He's the closest thing to a Robin big-S is ever likely to have.
