Good News, Everyone!
Nov. 16th, 2005 04:20 pm(Yep, I'm still gafiated. But hey, I don't need to be currently active in fandom to know that it's always a good time for good news.)
As of November 11th, with 97% of votes counted, the National Electoral Commission of Liberia declared Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to be President-elect of Liberia. Barring any exigencies (yes, I know, Liberia, but this is a good-news post, let's not harsh anybody's buzz, k?) she will become the first elected female president of an African country.
And André Boisclair has been elected leader of the Parti Québécois, making him the first openly gay politician to lead a major political party in North America. Makes me proud to be of partly French-Canadian descent, ouais.
(Information ganked from Wikipedia. I'm taking a brief holiday from source citation less lazy than that.)
