One of the medications I take regularly is a wonderful chronic-pain-management drug called tramadol, brand name Ultram. (For those interested, it's not an NSAID like ibuprofen, carries no risk of possibly fatal side effects like drugs in the Vioxx family, and is completely non-addictive and not even habit-forming -- if you have chronic pain issues, ask your doctor. I cannot stress this enough.)

Anyway, Te just noticed the time, and that I was due to take my next dose. But what she offered me was "some Ultraman."

Probably for the best that I insisted on the pill...

Kal-El can make that sound without using his mouth.

I love it when they try and make drugs sound like superheroes. Really, they do everything short of sticking spaceships on tthe front and stamping them with little symbols.

Medication would be waaaay more popular in that case. Especially if they wrote little comics about, I dunno, Paxil and her sidekick Ativan the Mighty kicking butt and taking names.

Not just the comics, which would be fabulous, but the TV series-- sort of, Buck Rogers-ish, but contemporary. And there'd be long, epic arcs over whether a particular drug has turned evil, and occasional guest appearances from the Obi-Wan Kenobi-like Aspirin, who I see as someone mystical, ancient, wise and kickass-- sort of Tibet-by-way-of Mars, More j'onn Jonzz than Yoda.

And oh! the terrible, angsty romances between contraindicated drugs!

Oh, my siblings and I used to watch it nearly every day after school! Cheesy, cheesy, but there was just something about it. Giant shiny gold dude fighting rubber monsters while puny humans with futuristic but badly animated aircraft either ran away or tried to help, stock gestures that triggered particular super-powers, and a flashing light that meant he was about to run out of power and, uh, die or revert back to human form or something.

My sibs and I used to copy the gestures/stances, though we never quite got the flying right.

Still, I'd much rather have tramadol for pain. It's not always enough, but every day that it is enough is one day fewer that I resort to the codeine, so thank goodness I can get prescriptions again and therefore have access to tramadol. *whew* (Funny how if you don't have health coverage, the more dangerous drug is actually easier to get than the safer one.)
