Access to existing LJ Memories is doing fine. Any attempt to add new memories will result only in frustration, at the moment, and trying to edit existing memories may lead to screaming when they (apparently) disappear entirely.


Jack: grrr. and lj is telling me that it's adding this entry, but it's not showing up.
Livia: *gr*
Jack: hmm. ::checks status and support:: nothing about memories being down, but styles editing isn't working because they're fixing it... ::wonders whether that could affect memories::
Jack: eek.
Jack: don't try editing any of the existing memories, until it gets fixed... q:

Livia: ok.
Jack: hm. okay, what we appear to have is the opposite of the earlier problem [you could edit your memories but no one else could view them] -- everyone can view the memories, whether they're their own or not, but either updates to memories aren't being displayed or they're not saving at all.
Jack: ::checks lj_maintenance::

Jack: ::sigh:: okay, people started reporting it at least 7 hours ago, and it's allegedly a 'known issue' now, so... we wait.

LJ is being completely honest when it says you've successfully added/edited an entry in your memories. The entry exists. Somewhere.

You just can't retrieve it at this time.

I know this because if you look at the total number of memories before you add a memory, and after, it goes up. Even though you cannot find any evidence of the new memory existing under the keyword you've given it.

I posted a help request to support about it yesterday. They said if you wait half an hour to an hour, the entries will become visible. Bull, said I, as this answer was given four hours after my request and the entries had not become visible. Apparently the volunteers have no way of *actually* knowing how long new or edited memories will be lost in the ether, and picked a number out of the air.

I haven't the foggiest idea how LJ code works, but it seems to me at least possible that those entries, though they exist in undisplayable form now, might wind up wiped as a side effect of whatever needs to be done to correct the problem. Hopefully that won't happen, and I don't really expect it to, but when it comes to this sort of thing I'd rather be safe than sorry.
