This is what we have a fandom FOR.

evadne_ and I were talking the other morning, and she mentioned how, while she loves Gar Logan (Beast Boy, or Changeling, depending on the era) and wants to write lots of porn with him (yay!), she couldn't picture slashing him with Vic (Cyborg), becaue she hasn't read any storylines with him that grabbed her and made her care about his character as yet.
I suggested that she try some of the older stuff, where they used to do whole stories about Vic and his life, background, interests, etc. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing remotely like that in recent years was the storyline where he came back to earth all over golden and kind of freaked-out, yes?) In particular, I was thinking of the... well, we'd call it a limited series or a maxiseries now, but this was long before those terms... anyway, Spotlight on the New Teen Titans, which ran for twenty-some issues, each one either centred on one of the Titans or making up part of a short arc (2-4 issues) focussed on one Titan. I have most or all of these. Er... somewhere in my old-school back-issues file, probably near Batman and the Outsiders.
I also thought of, have, and recced to Ang, Tales of the New Teen Titans, a four-issue miniseries from 1982. One issue each devoted to the backstory/life story of Vic, Raven, Gar, and Kory -- serendipitously, the four non-YJ Titans on current roster, if you count the fact that Raven's looking likely to be reunited with the team by year's end -- as told by each one to their fellow Titans, in the context of a camping trip they all take. (Dick, Donna and Wally are there too.) It's very cute, and remains a great set of introductions to the older also-Titans, despite the issues of unreliable narrators and the possibility of some details having been subsequently retconned out of canon.
edit: Well, as has been pointed out to me (see comments), it was a sweet idea. Body of original post follows.
Anyway... you want to go here: http://suprnova.org and look for a pack called "The New Teen Titans. Date: 09-04" to get the comics Ang and I were talking about.
I'm leaving the subject line as it is. I think it still applies. ::rueful grin::

- Now, here's where the FANDOM part comes in.
As I said, I have the miniseries. Unfortunately, being over 20 years old and long out of print, it's not something you can just walk into your local comixshop and ask for (though there's always the possibility they have it buried in a dusty box somewhere). But the internet has more recently brought us these cool things we call comics torrents, which are comics scanned by fans and uploaded for all to share.
I don't use the torrents (because my computer is teh suck, mainly). Nor do I have a scanner (though
So.
Somebody out there reading this must have the missing element: namely, the technical expertise to create a torrent for Tales of the New Teen Titans. I'm willing to ship (by which I mean lend, since I have only the one copy and won't be able to access the eventual torrent) the four issues either to Ang (who would then need someone to walk her through the uploading process) or to someone with both the torrent-making expertise and the scanner access.
If that person is you, speak up. Comics are more fun when you have people to share with, and that's what fandom's all about.
